The 15-Minute Google Business Profile Checklist for Local Businesses
For most local businesses, your Google Business Profile shows up before your website does, on Maps and in the local results. Here is a checklist you can finish in one sitting.
1. Pick the right primary category
Choose the category that best describes your main service, for example "Dentist" rather than "Health". Add secondary categories only if they truly apply.
2. Make your name, address and phone consistent
Use exactly the same business name, address and phone everywhere: your site, Facebook, Yelp. Don't stuff keywords into your business name. That breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.
3. Set accurate hours, including holidays
Few things annoy customers more than turning up when you're closed. Update special hours before holidays.
4. Add services and a real description
List each service. Describe what you do, who you serve and where, in plain language.
5. Upload real photos
Your storefront, team, work and interior. Real photos build trust far better than stock images.
6. Ask every happy customer for a review
Use the "Ask for reviews" link in your profile. Text it right after a good job. Reply to every review, the negative ones politely.
7. Post monthly
Share offers, seasonal tips or new photos. It keeps the profile active and gives customers a reason to call.
8. Link to the right page
Point the website button to a fast, mobile-friendly page with a click-to-call button.
