Google Ads vs. Meta Ads for Local Businesses: Which First?
Both can work. They work differently, though, and it helps to know which fits your business.
Google Ads: catch people already searching
Someone types "emergency plumber near me". They need you now. Search ads suit urgent, high-intent services like plumbing, HVAC, dental emergencies and locksmiths. Clicks can be expensive in competitive cities, so tight targeting and call tracking matter.
Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads: create demand
People aren't searching. They're scrolling. Meta works well for visual, impulse or local-offer businesses like salons, spas, gyms and restaurants, especially with a strong offer such as a first-visit discount.
How to choose
- Urgent need, people search for it: start with Google.
- Visual service, offer-driven: start with Meta.
- Small budget: pick one channel, a small service area and one offer.
Before spending a dollar
Make sure your landing page loads fast, has tap-to-call and a short form, and that you track calls and form fills. Otherwise you can't tell what's working.
